Empowering Women: Women’s History Month (Picture books-Middle grade books)

Throughout history there have been many amazing women who have stood against oppression and prejudice. Women who have dared to stand up for women’s rights and break from traditional gender roles. Women have fought hard over centuries and this being an especially monumental year, considering our first female vice president was recently sworn into office! This month we celebrate ALL WOMEN. Women who have made sacrifices, stood up for their rights, and continue to strive to empower themselves and succeed.

This list compiles several different kinds of books for women’s history month. Some are historical accounts of monumental moments in women’s history, and some are historical biographies. Others are biographies about women who are making strides as role models today. And even more are historical fiction, relating to the challenges women have faced, and realistic fiction with strong female characters. The books are categorized by type of book such as picture book or chapter book, and by suggested age range. Click on a book to visit our catalog, read a short description, and place a hold.
